Hello! Content? Where are you?
Have you ever looked at a site and thought (or said out loud, or screamed at the top of your lungs to the gods), “I seriously hope no one got paid to do that?” Well, you’d be AMAZED at the number of these I have in the pipeline. I’m losing my mind at the number of people who not only hang out the shingle as “designers,” but the number of idiots who look at the absolute crap they produce and hire them anyway.
So, you are looking for a house in Kentucky (notice, I didn’t say I was). What website, logically, would you look at without even searching? That’s right, you just fire up your lame copy of IE 6 and type in the address bar something like, “www.ky-homes.com” because you LOVE domains with a dash in them. I mean, who doesn’t put a dash in everything just for fun? Well, you’d be surprised to know that ky-homes.com sucks. I know, who woulda thunk it?
See, if you wanted to move to Kentucky (the greenest state in the land of the free, as the song tells us), this site would lead you to believe that you have your choice of a 485 acre farm which has nothing on it, a duplex for rent or a duplex for sale (and I think they’re the same duplex). I guess you’re not moving to Kentucky. I already bought the duplex, and I’m doubling the rent so that you can’t afford it. It’s the farm or nothing, pal.
So, what’s the problem with this site? They charge people for listing property. If you can’t hire a proper designer, how can you charge me for a listing? Hmmm… Let’s see. At first glance, I see a home page with 5 pictures, two of which are animated gifs (eww…) on a sucky graph paper background that reminds me of kindergarten (not really, because I was drunk the whole time and I don’t remember it). Well, that part sucks, but but what’s really wrong with it is… Someone put a “designed by” link in it. Why? If you can’t design, why point fingers at your inability to design?
How do we know this site was done by a non-designer? Well, it was done in a big table with loads of font tags for one, but that’s a technical reason. What about the real reason? OK. Look at it. Case closed. Even mediocre web designers are all around us, so what possible excuse could there be for this site?
We’re here to point out the obvious for those of you who lack the ability to recognise it for yourselves. So, leave a comment. You can say things like, “OMFG, that site blows.” or “Try my get rich quick scheme.” or even “Dude, you’re an asshole.” We’d love to hear from you (which is utter BS, we just want you to say “hi” and then shut up).
Oh, and one more thing. Stop hiring people who’s “design” is stuck in the late 90’s! There is no excuse for it. Also, in the comments, tell me if I should bother with the “designer” of this site’s own site or just ignore it and hope it goes away…

Hey Aaron, thanks for replying. Actually my Babe of the week section doesn’t get much traffic. I just put it there as an ice breaker. Check my most popular post on the upper right pane of my blog and you should see the top five has got nothing to do with babes or anything.
You got a nice domain name though I would prefer if the F is not there.
Cheers,
Z

Well, it was a toss-up, but I like the ‘F.’ There’s no reason to insist that it stand for the horrible word. You could make it “fluffy” or “freaking” or even “funky.” That’s the wonderful thing about acronyms…
By the way, I’ve been reading your blog. I like it, and I’ll implement what I can of the traffic getting tips. The babe thing was kind of a joke / jab
You got good content alright but if you don’t get enough traffic then your good content just goes to waste. Work on your traffic as I can see there are just few visits a day to your blog.

Thanks for the tip. When I have time, I’ll do that. I try to get traffic without a “Babe of the week” section, though. While I dig babes, I dig the other parts of your blog for information purposes.
