Japanese Suck to Scare Children

Japanese culture is fascinating to me. I love sushi and saki, and have every desire to learn the language. They have such a firm grasp on societal structure that there is really no excuse for what I’m about to show you. It seems that people in Japan want to scare the snot out of their sick children. That’s right, they want to flood them with color and spook them (possibly scarring them for life) with an evil cat.

OMFG Why in the hell is everything moving?

OMFG Why in the hell is everything moving?

The site in question is for the Aiseikai hospital, a hospital for Japanese children. Well, maybe not exactly for children, but a place where children are born. The picture doesn’t do the site justice, so you’ll have to visit it for the full effect. Sadly I can’t read Japanese, or I’d tell you how to get to the remarkable sub-pages I found. One has aerial photographs of the hospital, one has a crude “MS Paint” map and still another has an embedded sound file which is a recording of an ultrasound session (I can’t explain why I find that kind of gross, but I do).

It appears that the site hasn’t been updated since 1998 (at least that’s what the copyright notice says about it), but they’ve had over 3 million visitors since then. That’s right, they have a web counter. The fact that the thing is there tells me that either the page really hasn’t been updated since 1998, or the webmaster is still living in 1998. Either way isn’t good. The thing about the counter that I find most disturbing is that it has an additional place for when they top 10 million. Why not throw a couple more places on there and get a cool billion?

The worst thing about this site is all the movement and the poor choice of colors (namely every color there is). I take that back. The worst thing about this site is that cat on the front page. It looks like something out of a bad horror movie, and I may end up having nightmares about it. It’s seriously creepy. The cat is clickable, though, so you need not stare into it’s lifeless demonic eyes for long. Is that a good thing? I think not, but anything is better than a flashy eyed cat-thing, staring into your soul.

I think it’s about time for the folks at the Aiseikai Hospital to do a site update, don’t you? Click the e-mail link (the animated gif of an envelope opening and closing) and send them a notice that they are more than a decade behind.

youuuuuuuuuuu are fucking retarded. learn about the culture before you comment about you it you dumbass. that cat is called maneki neko and it’s something that has been around japan for a long time. It’s the equivalent of an American welcome mat on a porch, just that we use it for shops and, well pretty much any building that people walk into.

Dude… You’re requires an apostrophe. And, um… Did you look at the site? See, the cat may not translate culturally to the west, but the suck does.

Screw the cat, idiot.

That is one Japanese website that is so bad one just has to ask…“What were they thinking?”

Horrible beyond belief!

Aaron Reply:

You should call them and let them know how badly it sucks…
